Partner Meet & Greet: Terry Busing

It’s time for another Meet & Greet! This time we asked Material Handling Partner, Terry Busing, a few get-to-know-you questions. See what he has to say!

1. What is one of your career goals for 2013?

To hopefully reach the million dollar sales club. I plan to accomplish this by doing several things.  Increasing my social media activity to achieve higher visibility. Increasing my blogging on my two partner sites. Adding new products to my current SMO online catalog, as well as tweaking it for higher searching capabilities. I am also coming out soon with a new Plastic Pallet online catalog, which will exclusively show hundreds of plastic pallets styles and sizes. Currently there is not one of these which exists of this magnitude, since I lost my old domain site in 2010. My hope is to make Indoff a leader in the plastic pallet sales industry.

2. If you could live anywhere in the world, no strings attached, where would you live? Why?

That is a simple one and simple.  A cabin in the Great Smokey Mountains of North Carolina. We use to go there a lot on family vacations when I was young, around Cherokee, Sylva and Asheville. I have also hiked the Appalachian Trail a couple of times, visited all the major sites more than once, as well as hiked to many major waterfalls. Although there is so much more to do.  I have always had a passion for the solitude and laid back lifestyle of the small towns in that area. However I still have a passion to visit Switzerland, Germany, Alaska and Hawaii. So if Indoff could arrange to have at least two of the Champions Circle meetings in Alaska and Hawaii that would knock two off my bucket list!
3. What is your favorite movie?

Wow that is a tough one, I love movies! Don’t know that I could reduce it down to one. Just to name a few off the top of my head, knowing I am forgetting many. ET, Star Wars movies, Star Trek movies, James Bond movies, Pink Panther movies, loved Peter Sellers. More recently Avatar, Sky Fall, Zero Dark Thirty. There are MANY more!

4. What would you do with a million dollars?

Set up a halfway house or rehab facility for troubled teens with addiction issues. A recent passion of mine in the last several years.

5. How long have you been in the business?

I started in this business with my dad in 1982, which was Busing Company Inc. My dad started the business in 1972. I took over the business just three years later (1985) when my dad suddenly past away from a stroke at age 50. Talk about being dumped into the tank without a paddle! However I was able to take us from $200-$300 thousand in sales to up over 2 million by the year 2000. So as of its close in 2012 Busing Company had been in business for 40 years.

6. What is one thing you are most proud of?

My life!! Which has consisted of my own company for 30 years (thanks Dad!). My incredible father & mother, which offered me and my other siblings unconditional love! My wife and two wonderful daughters. My two sisters and brother. And of course Indoff! However none of this would not have been possible without my relationship with the Lord! I am TRULY blessed!!

7. What is your favorite quote?

I don’t really have one. Have seen many I like but none of them come to mind right now.

8. If you could have any super power, which one would you choose?

The power to bring some peace to this very troubled world we live in right now!!

9. What made you decide to join Indoff?

Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, I was forced to close my material handling equipment business in 2012, due to the economy and several other factors beyond my control. Indoff had been pursuing me for several years prior to that. I knew after 30 years of being in the material handling equipment sales business I did not want to do anything else. So I weighed all my options and Indoff seemed to be the best fit. Indoff allowed me to do what I love, with the same customers and vendors. Also relieved me of all the stress of running a company, especially the thing I hated most, AR & AP. I love to figure out and solve solutions for customers (and partners) and love selling. Indoff has allowed me to do all that and more!
10. What do you enjoy most about working at Indoff?

Indoff has allowed me to do the same thing I have loved to do over the last 30+ years and still feel like I am running my own business. It is also really nice to have the capitol backing, as well as purchasing power. There is even perks. Working with incredibly talented sales partners and Indoff staff, which I have the pleasure of interacting with on a daily basis. Really nice to know you are not fighting this horrible economy on your own. Plenty of people here offering their help.

Thanks, Terry!

Become Social

Social media, for many of us, has been a prevalent part of our lives. We are used to it and life without it is becoming a distant memory.  For others, though, being present socially is a foreign idea. They may not see the need for social media or simply don’t understand how it works. This can pose a problem if that person has the ability to benefit from a social media presence. (Salespeople, New Entrepreneurs, Business Professionals, etc.)

So how can you start your social journey when you don’t know where to start?

The simplest solution would be to do your research. By reading a little about each site, you can get a feel for the type of interaction they provide for their users.  The majority of the platforms you will be working with are free so take a few hours out of your week and create a profile. They don’t have to be completely put together right away. Once you get a feel for the content you can share and the people you can connect with on the variety of sites, you can decide which platform you would benefit from using.

Of course there are other ways to determine which social media site is right for you and your name or company. Take a look at an article from the editors of CRM Magazine for more great tips!
